51% Attack

A 51% attack is a type of cyberattack on a blockchain network in which the attacker or a group of miners controls more than 50% of the blockchain network. The mining group that has gained control over more than 50% of the network can alter the data on a blockchain.

It will allow miners to control the validation process and block the exchange of payments among users. Smaller networks are more vulnerable to these attacks than large networks. Although it is hard to stop these attacks, consensus mechanisms like the Proof of Stake (PoS) mechanism can help prevent them.
