Halving

Halving is a statement based on a closed-source event of a certain cryptocurrency, in particular Bitcoin, to cut the reward miners get for verifying transactions and putting new blocks on the genesis block. Bitcoin halving takes place roughly every four years or after 210,000 blocks have been mined. Halving mainly exists to limit the amount of newly-created coins that enter circulation, and hence increase scarcity with every single halving. The comparison is made because this mechanism is used to reinforce Bitcoin’s deflationary monetary policy and is typically associated with scarce assets like gold.

Bitcoin halvings have been major attention magnets for the investors and players of the community throughout history, as they are events that cut the new supply creation in half, thus affecting market fundamentals. With each halving event, the block reward continues to halve, and miners become even more reliant on transaction fees and operational efficiency throughout their networks.
